Why even bother wasting taxpayers' money on keeping this guy in prison? Is capital punishment sometimes the right solution perhaps? 38-year old crazy Frenchman, Nicolas Cocaign has admitted to killing his cellmate, ripping out his victim's lung and eating part of it raw before frying up the rest with onions on a portable camping stove.
Subsequent to popular belief, this year's World Cup team is not the worst thing to come out of France!!
The press are dubbing Cocaign as "Hannibal Lecter" (from the best-selling novel and movie, "The Silence of the Lambs").
In court he testified that before the good ol' fashioned BBQ, he beat and stabbed Thierry Baudry with a pair of scissors and then smothered him with a rubbish bag in his prison cell in the north-western French city of Rouen.
Prosecuters requested that Cocaign receive a 30-year sentence with no possibility of parole for 20 years, and the court obliged. - What? How could they possibly ever consider paroling this kind of maniac?
His defence team pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity... a barrage of psychiatrists testified that he was not necessarily insane, as did prosecutor Elizabeth Pelsez when she argued, "A man who plunges into horror is not necessarily afflicted with madness".
Cocaign blames prison authorities for not offering him psychological help when he requested it. He said, "No one was listening to me... I made several appeals for help, saying I was a man capable of being dangerous. I took action, and then they took me seriously".
Mr Baudry's mutilated body was not discovered by prison warders until a full day after his death.
At the time of the murder and cook-out, Cocaign was in jail for armed robbery and was also awaiting trial for attempted rape.
There was also a third cellmate who claimed he was not involved in the incident and was subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing. The pressure was too much for him however, and he later committed suicide.
So there you go - as I said, the worst thing to come out of France is not this year's World Cup team!! :)
