Parsons, a renowned big-wave surfer, is filmed surfing a 70-foot (20m) monster and riding it "to the death".
Filmed over the course of two years, Billabong Odyssey explores the life-or-death adventures of a team of surfers on the quest to find and surf the biggest wave on the planet.
The film tracks expeditions to a variety of exotic and contrasting locations around the world, usually at a moment's notice, led by big water superstars like Southern California's Mike Parsons and Brad Gerlach, the Santa Cruz wildmen Darryl "Flea" Virostko, Shawn "Barney" Barron, Ken "Skindog" Collins and Josh Loya, big-wave legend Ken Bradshaw and world champion Australian Layne Beachley.
The team challenges deadly waves throughout the world, including the mouth of the Columbia River in Washington State; Mavericks in Northern California; Todos Santos Island, Mexico; Cortes Bank in the Pacific; the outer shoals of the Hawaiian Isles of Oahu and Maui; the vicious barrels of Teahupoo, Tahiti; and newly-discovered reefs in Australia, France and Spain.
